Grinnell Veterinary Clinic is a full-service, small and large animal hospital located in Grinnell, IA. We are committed to providing the highest standard of veterinary care for your furry family members - from preventative health care to veterinary surgery, pet dentistry, and more.
It is the mission of the doctors and staff of the Grinnell Veterinary Clinic to provide the highest quality and most comprehensive care available to each patient whether it is a companion, pleasure, or food producing animal. We will strive to educate each client on all aspects of preventative care on an individual or herd basis. A proactive approach to our patients' and clients' needs is our goal.
Kurt J Brennan, DVM
Dr. Kurt Brennan grew up in Indianola and became interested in veterinary medicine through his father and brother who are veterinarians. He received his degree in biology from Luther College before attending and graduating with his degree in veterinary medicine from the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Dr Brennan and his wife Kelly have five boys and a black labrador mix named Riley. Kurt enjoys various athletics.
Joel Loomis, DVM
Dr. Joel Loomis grew up on a farm near Winterset, Iowa. He attended Iowa State University for seven years. In 2004 he graduated with his DVM degree from the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine. He is married to a lovely lady named Beth and has a son named Micah and two beautiful daughters named Lucie and Joanna. Joel enjoys athletics, hunting, fishing, and working outdoors.
Matt Umphress, DVM
Dr. Matt Umphress is originally from Mason City, IA. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University in 2009 and graduated from Iowa State University Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Matt has a black lab mix named Knox. He spends his spare time outdoors and relaxing at home. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends, especially at Iowa State Cyclone football games!
Michael Foley, DVM
Dr. Michael Foley is originally from Cedar Rapids, IA. He studied Philosophy and Pre-Law at the University of Northern Iowa until 2007 and received his Bachelor of Liberal Science Degree from Iowa State University in 2012. Michael then graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Michael has two cats named Asuka and Maggie. He spends his spare time outdoors fishing, camping or backpacking and relaxing at home. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Stefanie Merrill, DVM
Dr. Stefanie Merrill is originally from Ottumwa, Iowa. She received her Bachelor of Animal Science degree in 2015 from ISU and graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020. Stefanie and her husband, Brandon, have 1 cat named Elsa and a dog named Brittany. She enjoys hunting with her husband, fishing, kayaking, hiking, gardening, spending time outdoors, and being around her family and friends.
Marcia is from Graettinger, IA, a small town in northwest Iowa. She attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, IA where she received her AS Degree in Accounting. She has called Grinnell home since 1991. She is recently married to Brian Hoffmann and between the two of them they have 1 daughter and 3 sons. Winnie the cat is currently the only "dependent" still living at home. She enjoys spending time with family, camping, riding bikes, cookouts with friends, and being outdoors.
Jessica grew up Eminence, Missouri and moved to Grinnell in June 2016. She attended San Juan College and in 2014 she received her Associates in Science for Veterinary Technology. Jessica is also an equine barefoot hoof specialist. She has an Arabian gelding as her main riding horse along with a team of Halflinger mares. Jessica also raises purebred Spanish meat goats. In her free time she enjoys caring for her animals, working with her horses, growing and making delicious food, and various natural fiber arts.
Ceara grew up on a family farm in Deep River, Iowa and graduated from North Mahaska High School in 2013. She attended Iowa State University and received her Bachelors degree in Animal Science. Ceara is married to Brant Smothers of Montezuma, Iowa. They have 2 Australian Shepherds, Sadie and Scout. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, being outdoors, and showing her quarter horses.
Michelle grew up near Chelsea, Iowa and graduated from South Tama in 2010. She attended Kirkwood Community College and received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Humane Officer Training and Veterinary Assisting. Michelle has 3 dogs - Luna a Beagle, Zuma a mini American Eskimo, and Willow an Australian Shepherd mix. She enjoys being outside, photography, and spending time with her nephews.
Jodie grew up in northeast Iowa right outside of Masonville on a 280 head of holstein dairy cows. She graduated from East Buchanan High school in 2018. She attended Hawkeye Community college and received her certified nursing assistant certification. Jodie then moved to the Lynnville Sully Area. She has two dogs Charlie (a retriever mix) who she adopted, and Hoyt (a collie heeler mix) who is in the middle of puppy training. A fun fact about Jodie is that she loves photography, has a love for all things cow, spending time with her family and friends ,and checking cows on the weekend with her husband Dylan.
Maria grew up on a farm outside of the small town of Alvord, Iowa. Maria graduated from northwest Iowa Community College with her Associate of Arts degree. She is a certified nursing assistant. She currently resides in Brooklyn, Iowa with her fiancé and son Theo. They have a german shepherd named Remy. In her free time Maria enjoys shooting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Quincy grew up on a farm outside of Montezuma. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 2018, then attended Kirkwood Community College and received her Associates Degree in 2020. Quincy is also a Certified Equine Massage Therapist. She has 2 Dachshunds named Peanut and Oliver and 2 horses named Rocky and Moose. Quincy enjoys competing at horse shows, being with family, and doing anything and everything on the farm.
Cheyenne grew up on a farm outside of Sully. She graduated high school in 2017. She has three horses named Cookie, Rolo, and Dave. She also has a german shepherd named LeRoy. Cheyenne enjoys working with horses, spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys taking her dog on hikes and trails in the summer.
Lacey grew up in Gilman, Iowa and graduated from East Marshall High School in 2009. She's married to Chris Stowe. They have a daughter Emersyn and a son Christian, an Australian Shepherd named Cami, and a Husky named Dakota . In Lacey's free time she enjoys being with her family and friends.
Jacque grew up on a farm near Iowa Falls with cattle, pigs and horses. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School. Jacque is married to Bryan Spriggs from Grinnell. Between the two of them, they have 4 children ranging from 4 years old to 15 years old, and 3 dogs - Libby the chocolate lab, Louie the golden doodle, and Chip the Dachshund. Jacque loves spending time outdoors, playing volleyball, attending her kids' activities and attending church.
Kiersten grew up in Grinnell and Graduated from Grinnell High School in 2016. She is married to Josh DeWitt of Sully, IA. They have 2 cats, Moonshine and Margarita. She enjoys boating, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. She also loves to be creative by wood burning, painting, and making blankets.
Lauryn grew up in Des Moines, and graduated Johnston High School. Lauryn met her now husband, Brandon Elliott, in Cedar Falls and received a BA from the University of Iowa in Interdepartmental Studies, emphasizing in Business. After spending 6 years in St. Paul working in the mental health field, she and her husband moved to Montezuma in 2020, to be closer to family. They moved with their two dogs, Gus the Chiweenie mix, and Peyton the petite Pitbull, and over 40 houseplants. Lauryn loves camping, gardening, crocheting, cooking, baking and spending time with her dogs.
