Mission Statement
It is the mission of the doctors and staff of the Grinnell Veterinary Clinic to provide the highest quality and most comprehensive care available to each patient whether it is a companion, pleasure, or food producing animal. We will strive to educate each client on all aspects of preventative care on an individual or herd basis. A proactive approach to our patients' and clients' needs is our goal.

Kurt J Brennan, DVM
Veterinarian, Owner

Dr. Kurt Brennan grew up in Indianola and became interested in veterinary medicine through his father and brother who are veterinarians. He received his degree in biology from Luther College before attending and graduating with his degree in veterinary medicine from the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Dr Brennan and his wife Kelly have five boys and a black labrador mix named Riley. Kurt enjoys various athletics.
Joel Loomis, DVM
Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Joel Loomis grew up on a farm near Winterset, Iowa. He attended Iowa State University for seven years. In 2004 he graduated with his DVM degree from the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine. He is married to a lovely lady named Beth and has a son named Micah and two beautiful daughters named Lucille and Joanna. Joel enjoys athletics, hunting, fishing, and working outdoors.

Matt Umphress, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Matt Umphress is originally from Mason City, IA. He received his bachelor's in animal science from Iowa State University and graduated from ISU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. He loves spending time with his wife, Heather, and their daughter. They love spending a lot of their time outdoors. They also really enjoy hiking with their Heeler mix, Zeppelin, backpacking, camping, and relaxing. He is an avid Cyclone fan and loves attending the football games in the Fall.

Michael Foley, DVM
Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Michael Foley is originally from Cedar Rapids, IA. He studied Philosophy and Pre-Law at the University of Northern Iowa until 2007 and received his Bachelor of Liberal Science Degree from Iowa State University in 2012. Michael then graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Michael has a cat named Asuka. He spends his spare time outdoors fishing, camping or backpacking and relaxing at home. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Catharine Found, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Catharine Found was born and raised in Iowa City, IA. She then went to Texas where she played college volleyball and majored in Environmental Policy. She is a 2022 graduate of Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and a 2021 graduate of University of Iowa Masters in Public Health. Catharine loves working with all types of animals and has a passion for preventative medicine. Catharine lives with her husband, Blaine, and their three rescue dogs. She is excited to move to Grinnell and meet the patients and clients of the community!

Marcia Hoffmann
Office Manager
Marcia is from Graettinger, IA, a small town in northwest Iowa. She attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, IA where she received her AS Degree in Accounting. She has called Grinnell home since 1991. She is recently married to Brian Hoffmann and between the two of them they have 1 daughter and 3 sons. Winnie the cat is currently the only "dependent" still living at home. She enjoys spending time with family, camping, riding bikes, cookouts with friends, and being outdoors.

Jessica Pierce
Veterinary Assistant
Jessica is from southern Missouri, received her A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology in 2014, moved to Grinnell in 2016, and married Benjamin in 2017. Jessica is also an equine barefoot hoof specialist, and a dog/human trainer because she loves to see happy and healthy dog/human relationships. She has two adventuresome kitties (Cricket & Paste), two horses (Stormy - Arabian and Willow - POA), and Susie (field bred yellow lab). Jessica and Benjamin raise small groups of pigs and grass fed/finished beef for the community. They love good food, growing plants and animals, traveling, and all the outdoor things.

Cheyenne Nikkel
Veterinary Assistant
Cheyenne grew up on a farm outside of Sully. She graduated high school in 2017. Currently she lives in Grinnell with her husband, Josh. She has three horses named Cookie, Dove and Joe. She also has a German Shepherd named LeRoy and a Golden Retriever named Mae. Cheyenne enjoys working with horses, spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys taking her dog on hikes and trails in the summer.

Michelle Dvorak
Veterinary Assistant
Michelle grew up near Chelsea, Iowa and graduated from South Tama in 2010. She attended Kirkwood Community College and received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Humane Officer Training and Veterinary Assisting. Michelle has 3 dogs - Luna a Beagle, Zuma a mini American Eskimo, and Willow an Australian Shepherd mix. She enjoys being outside, photography, and spending time with her nephews.

Anna Mallory
Veterinary Assistant
Anna grew up on a farm outside of Grinnell, Iowa. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 2017, then attended ISU where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, graduating in December of 2021. Anna resides in Montezuma, Iowa with her husband, Carson, and their four animals. A peek-a-pom named Teddy, an English Setter named Tripp, and two cats named Mimosa and Echo. In her free time, she likes spending time with friends and family and loves to travel.

Maria Soliven
Veterinary Assistant
Maria grew up on a farm outside of the small town of Alvord, Iowa. Maria graduated from northwest Iowa Community College with her Associate of Arts degree. She is a certified nursing assistant. She currently resides in Brooklyn, Iowa with her husband, Lester, and son, Theo. They have a german shepherd named Remy and two cats named Rushmore and Sofie. In her free time Maria enjoys shooting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

Ella McAlexander
Veterinary Assistant
Ella grew up in Grinnell, Iowa. She graduated at Grinnell-Newburg Highschool in 2021. Ella currently resides in Newton, Iowa with her boyfriend, Trae and has a cocker-spaniel named Dolly. Ella enjoys to hangout with friends, paint, incorporate music into her day, spend time outdoors and also enjoy a relaxing night in.

Leah Weithers
Veterinary Assistant
Leah has lived in Newton, IA for the past 23 years. She graduated from Newton high school in 2017 and then graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Human Services in 2021. She currently resides in Newton with her husband, Josh, and two children, Charlotte and Andrew. She has three cats (Mia, Bubastis & Clover) and one dog (George). She has a strong love for cats and really enjoys baking and spending time with her family.

Nicole Brown

Nicole grew up in Bismarck, AR where she also graduated in 2011. She married her husband, Casey, in 2019 and they have 2 little boys, Connor and Colton. They have six dogs - Carly, Maverick, Sugar, Lucy, Sadie, and Maggie. New to Iowa since February 2023 and loving it!

Morgan Kegebein
Veterinary Assistant
Morgan grew up in Hudson, Iowa, and graduated from Hudson High School in 2019. She then studied Animal Science and Healthcare Administration at Hawkeye Community College and Mercy College of Health Sciences. Morgan's love for animals began through 4H and FFA, showing cattle, goats, and swine. In her free time, Morgan enjoys spending time with family and friends at Lake Ponderosa where she lives with her boyfriend Lucas.

Lacey Stowe
Receptionist
Lacey grew up in Gilman, Iowa and graduated from East Marshall High School in 2009. She still resides in Gilman with her husband Chris and together they have a daughter named Emersyn and a son named Christian. Lacey also has 2 Australian Shepherds, Cami and Dixie, and a Lab named Gabbi. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and kayaking in the summer, reading a good book, working on her ’66 Ford Mustang with help from her husband, doing crafts, and just relaxing. She is also a huge fan of the TV show Friends and can quote just about every single episode.

Briley Riedlinger
Receptionist
Briley grew up in many different states including Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, South Dakota, and lastly Iowa. Briley graduated from DMACC in 2022 with a baking degree. She found her love of animals when she got her first cat at eight years old. She shares her home with three cats, Oakland, Izzy, and LBK. In her free she enjoy baking, cooking, and spending time with family.

Jillian S.
Receptionist
Jillian came to Iowa from the twin cities. She started her love of animals professionally as a groomer and soon went into the veterinary hospital field as a receptionist, assistant and practice manager. She has a son named Gavin who is a recent high school graduate. In her free time she likes to spend time with family and friends as well as serve on an animal rescue board. She has a love of dogs, cats and elephants. She shares her home with 5 miniature dachshunds and a great dane.

Skyler Small
Receptionist
Skyler grew up in Grinnell, IA and graduated from BCLUW High School in 2014. She attended Marshalltown Community College and received her Associate of Arts degree and Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice. Skyler and her boyfriend Matt have a son named Elliott. They also have two dogs, Radar, a Boxer Mix, and Kane, a Blue Heeler. Skyler has had many pets over the years including lizards, turtles, guinea pigs, hamsters, cats and dogs. In her free time she enjoys attending Supercross races, spending time with her friends and family, most importantly her son Elliott.

Sierra Van Wyk
Receptionist
Sierra grew up in a small town in south Oregon. She moved back to Iowa in 2009, graduated from Newton High School in 2016 and met her now husband in 2013. She has four dogs, two mutts named Kona and Knox, a Great Dane, Chief and a Rat Terrier, Fink. In her spare time she enjoys hanging out with friends, crafts and photography.
